Recent COVID-19 restrictions would not prevent our Year 11 students from volunteering their time to worthy causes during this year’s Community Service program.

Instead of going out into the community, we brought the community to Hume! Students engaged in school-based community service activities making and creating for some great causes.

Year 11A built, designed and decorated a children’s rock-climbing wall to donate to Melon’s Cottage (a free-of-charge respite accommodation set up to help families who have children in treatment for cancer/leukaemia, or are bereaved).

Year 11B worked via Sewing for Charity Australia, cutting and sewing burp cloths and cuddle hearts to be distributed to NICU Units for use in the care of premature and sick babies.

Year 11C busied themselves creating animal enrichment toys for dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs who are awaiting their forever homes at the RSPCA.

Well done Year 11! When we give to others - whether it be our service, our time or our presence - not only do we look after those in need, but we also look after our own wellbeing by increasing our social connections and providing us with a sense of purpose and self-worth.
