Sarah began working at Hume in 2023 and has taught Prep for five years previously but is now excited to have moved up to Year 4 with our fabulous Kalkallo students.

What do you like most about working at Hume Anglican Grammar?
I love the welcoming feeling from staff and students here at Hume Anglican Grammar. Every day I am excited to come to school because I know that my students and colleagues will lift me up.

The staff at Kalkallo are just something else. I would say we are the comedians of Hume Anglican Grammar. As we are still a small campus, every recess and lunchtime you will find us laughing and sharing stories. This is the highlight of working at Hume.

Provide us with a 'snapshot' into your daily routine at school.
My daily routine looks like arriving at work early, setting up my classroom, completing any admin tasks and organising my day. I then go around and have a chat to some of my colleagues before school starts. My favourite thing to teach is writing. I love seeing the students’ ideas come to life and reading what they are interested in. Throughout the day we also run a Numeracy and Reading session as well as a personal Inquiry session.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
I think both of my parents have had the biggest impact on my career, as I would never have studied teaching if it wasn’t for them. As I have continued to grow as a teacher, numerous colleagues have inspired my love for different aspects of teaching. The encouragement and praise they have given me for my work ethic has also allowed me to flourish.

Where is your favourite travel spot?
Rome!

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I broke my back when I was in Year 8 by falling 9 metres and was told I would probably never walk again. I then went on to achieve a scholarship in Dance, moved to Melbourne and became a teacher!
