Hume Anglican Grammar is a dual campus co-educational Anglican Diocesan School offering education from Prep to Year 12 in the Northern growth corridor of Melbourne.

The role of Laboratory Technician is situated at the Mt Ridley campus and will be working in the new STEM Centre opening commencement of Term 3, 2021!

About the position:

The Laboratory Technician is a key position with the Science Department and works collaboratively with science teaching staff, the STEM Centre Manager and the Head of Learning - Science. The purpose of the role is to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Science laboratories and management of resources.

The position is fixed term, full-time commencing from Monday 12 July 2021 and concluding 10 December 2021, working Term weeks. 

The Laboratory Technician will exercise significant initiative, be able to work autonomously, and will assist in the preparation of materials for all Science disciplines from Years 7 to12.  The Laboratory Technician must be appropriately qualified with demonstrated experience, knowledge, competence and skill as a Science Laboratory staff member to undertake this essential role for the School to achieve its curriculum goals.

The Laboratory Technician will need to be very organised and self-disciplined, have high standards and strive to improve their own practice and to make efficiencies in the school setting.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Design, trial and demonstrate experiments for lesson use if deemed necessary in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Assisting the STEM Centre Manager to manage the laboratory effectively
  • Certify risk assessments for learning activities completed by teaching staff.
  • Providing technical advice in relation to risk assessments for laboratory experiments and science projects undertaken by students.
  • Maintain chemical and scientific equipment registers and databases.
  • Implement and maintain safe storage/handling/disposal systems for chemicals and other toxic or biologically hazardous substances in accordance with current regulations.
  • Care for flora and fauna, and collect and maintain living specimens, in accordance with current regulations.

Skills and Experience Required;

Essential

  • Demonstrated relevant experience in a similar role as a Laboratory Manager.
  • A current Working with Children Check.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use new software programs.
  • Access to a car and a valid drivers licence.

Salary:
The Hume Anglican Grammar Agreement 2019 classifies this position as General Staff Level 3.

The position is entitled to 5 weeks paid annual leave pro rata. The following annual salary (excluding super) sub-level offered will be determined by the successful candidates experience in a like role and relevant qualifications.  Once you deduct the unpaid leave the salary will be prorated over the year and includes includes leave loading.  

3.1       $69,446 (annual equivalent)

3.2       $71,531 (annual equivalent)

3.3       $73,677 (annual equivalent)

3.4       $75,885 (annual equivalent)
