Staff Profile - Ellen Farrugia

In this edition of Meet the Team, we are speaking with Ellen Farrugia. Ellen began her journey at Hume Anglican Grammar in January 2019 as a Secondary classroom teacher and the Head of Summerhill House. She has been in the role of Year 8 Coordinator since 2020 and will be moving into the role of VCE Coordinator in 2023.

What do you like most about working at Hume Anglican Grammar?
Definitely the students! They all have so much potential, and I love having the opportunity to help them achieve their goals throughout their Secondary school journey.

Can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?
Right now, I’m currently working on re-vamping the Year 8 Wellbeing Program for 2023 and beyond, alongside the Student Wellbeing Leadership Team, who are all working on programs for their respective year levels. It’s great to collaborate with members of the team as we all have a range of passions and interests, so everyone is bringing something to the table. We’re going to see a much higher level of engagement in the program next year so watch this space!

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
My husband. We started our careers as teachers together and we’ve always worked as a team, helping each other out where we can whether it’s through sharing resources, proofreading emails or just providing general advice on how to manage the classroom. He’s always supported me to aim high and without this support, I wouldn’t be able to manage working full-time in a leadership position whilst raising our 16-month-old son Liam.

Fast Four:

If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be?
Sharp.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
My Grandfather on my father’s side who passed away when my father was young. Meeting him would just put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Favourite travel spot?
Japan, I can’t wait to go back and see more of that country, it’s just beautiful.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I’d love to be a voice actor in a video game or Anime series.
