It has been an interesting couple of weeks for several of our Year 5 and Year 6 students at Mt Ridley. They were asked to identify an issue that affects themselves and their community members in a 90-second video that would be shared with their local Members of Parliament.

During sitting weeks, Members of Parliament get the opportunity to make statements on matters of interest and concern to them. Often that includes matters arising in their electorates that they wish to bring to the attention of Parliament.
For this competition, the judges were looking for a clearly articulated message, interesting insights, ideas and perspectives and a clear understanding of why the issue matters, all wrapped up in a 90-second video.

Initially, the group met with Mrs Buckley at school, where they were able to have rich discussions around issues that mattered to them as young people. However, we then went into lockdown, so Microsoft teams came to the rescue! Mrs Rhodes guided the students online and they were able to record their video at home, in full school uniform and submit their entries on time.

We look forward to sharing the results with you!
