Secondary Subject Selection Season

For the past three weeks, the Secondary school has been alive with the buzz of SSSS – Secondary Subject Selection Season – always a great way to kick off Term 3!  The season began with the Subject Selection Evening held on 20 July, followed up the next week with lunchtime displays, new Curriculum Guides for 2023 and students selecting their courses for next year.

On Wednesday, 20 July the School hosted two onsite information sessions, one at 5.45pm for students entering Years 9 - 10 in 2023, then again at 7.00pm with a session for Years 11 - 12 (VCE). For a cold winter night, it was very exciting to have so many parents attend, given the previous two years where lockdown forced us to hold the event online. In the earlier session, numbers swelled to nearly three hundred as Heads of Faculty rushed around finding additional chairs to accommodate our guests. Families listened attentively as our Careers Counsellor, VCE Coordinator, Assistant Principal and I explained the array of courses and guidance services available for students, and advice on how to select wisely.

There were many questions from the audience and guests were able to discuss subject selection afterwards in Building 5 where they were welcome by our eight Heads of Faculty.

The fun continued the following week, where students were able to visit the STEM Centre at lunchtime to meet with teachers and Heads of Faculty to discuss their subjects in more detail. Over the course of three days, students took advantage of the flyers and information and asked intelligent and probing questions about the courses on offer.

Web preferences (the online tool whereby students log their selection) has now closed. The data will be used by the School and Timetabler to determine classes, blockings and the timetable in 2023.

It was fabulous to see our Secondary staff and students embrace SSSS with such enthusiasm.
