Staff Profile - Matt Whyte

In this edition of ‘Meet the Teacher’ we’re speaking with a member of our Year 4 Teaching Team at our Mt Ridley Campus, Matthew Whyte. Matt was fortunate enough to complete his fourth-year University placement here at Hume Anglican Grammar in 2021 and subsequently joined us as a graduate teacher this year.

What do you like most about working at Hume Anglican Grammar?
The Staff and the Students. I feel that throughout the entire school there is a sense of community and support. it’s a joy to come to work every day.

Can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?
I am currently working on an inquiry project for the Victorian Institute of Teaching. I am inquiring into how to build students’ inferential comprehension during reading. This project allows me to collaborate with other teachers and complete professional learning in this area which I am enjoy immensely.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
My wife. She encouraged me to go back to university and complete my Diploma in Education. I am beyond grateful that she supported me and my studies as now I get to do what I love every day.

If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be?
Passionate.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I don’t think I could do just one, I’ll condense it down the best I can. Luke Hodge, Brad Pitt, Paul Gallen, and Ken Griffey Jr.

One thing you couldn’t live without?
Besides my wife and my dogs, I couldn’t live without Baseball.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I have a twin brother
