A Vision For Teaching and Learning

As the Director of Teaching and Learning, one of my tasks for the year is to lead the writing of a new Vision for Teaching and Learning for Hume Anglican Grammar. This Vision will be a statement of what it is that we stand for and aim to execute in the realm of Teaching and Learning and the attributes that we value surrounding teaching, learning, pedagogy, and the skills that we hope our learners will develop throughout their time with us here at Hume. More than this, the skills that they will also take with them for a fulfilling and fruitful life.

Research tells us that excellence in Teaching and Learning is achieved through possessing a clear Vision that is the developed collaboratively, strategically and systematically and one that is lived out by the entire school community so that it is genuine, real-life and practiced day in, day out, for all stakeholders in the school to reap its Teaching and Learning rewards.

Throughout Term 1, the Teaching and Learning Leadership Team have been researching best-practice into 21st century teaching and learning and examining sample Visions from a range of other schools throughout Australia. In Term 2, we will be surveying students, staff and parents so that we can garner from all of the stakeholders in the school community, exactly what it is that you would like to see in a whole-school vision for Teaching and Learning – one that is shared, valued, explicitly taught and executed and ultimately one that will give our students the very best in future-focused, 21st century Teaching and Learning. This Vision will then be launched to the school community in Term 4, for implementation in 2022 and beyond. In preparation for the surveys and focus groups that we will be conducting, I would ask you to please consider:

  • What learner attributes you think a Hume Anglican Grammar student should possess
  • The 21st century skills that you would like your child to leave Hume Anglican Grammar with a mastery of
  • What future-focused values and attitudes you would like your children to leave school holding dear
  • What it is that creates excellence in Teaching and Learning

We will be in touch in the coming months, to gain your thoughts and feedback on what you would like to see in our Vision for Teaching and Learning.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Hume Anglican Grammar and our core business. We look forward to your participation in Term 2, in collecting the data that we need for our school’s new Vision for Teaching and Learning so that we can continue to provide education that is cutting-edge and best practice.
