History in the Making at Donnybrook!

Some of our Year 6 students were lucky enough to be a part of our first interschool sport competition! Here are some student’s reflections on the day.

On Friday, 11 March some of the Year 6 students went represented Hume Anglican Grammar in interschool sports. I was one of these kids who had been chosen for our School’s team specifically the Boys Cricket Team. I was completely taken by surprise as I was not even that good at cricket. The next day, we were on the bus discussing possible strategies to win. I knew that there were an abundant number of good players on our team which was relieving.

Our first match was against the Mt Ridley campus. Unfortunately, we lost this match, then our leader suggested a change in strategy. Then we had a bye, which meant we had to wait a bit, then we played our second match against Aitken Hill, and we won! This was our first victory and it gave me a boost of energy.

We also won the third match which took us to the semi-finals. There was a “double zone” which we used to our advantage to get 190 runs out of only 24 balls. This score led us to victory. Unfortunately, we could not compete in the finals because of a time shortage.  Even though we couldn’t compete in the finals I was very joyful and proud of our team. - Yuvraj 6X

On 11 March, the Boys and Girls Cricket Team went to Roxburgh Park to participate in the Cricket Gala; this was a competition against other schools. I was really nervous since I have never played cricket in a competition. We played against the first school and since it was our first match, we weren’t really that great, but we started getting better and better. Unfortunately, the other team won but we were feeling good about how well we tried and we had done ok for our first match, so we weren’t too disappointed. As we made our way to our second match, we were a bit nervous bur we knew how to play now, so we played well however, the other team won.

When we arrived to our third match we were pretty disappointed but we still tried hard and we played really so well that we won 38 - 51. We were so happy that we finally won a match! After the break we had we made our way to our final contestant of the day, Our Lady’s Primary School. The team we were playing were super good, however, after we were finished we thought the other team won but we won! We were super proud of ourselves. We didn’t know much about cricket, but still, we won! After the day we were tired but super proud. - Anmolpreet 6Y
