Year 7 Orientation Day

On Friday, 28 January, Year 7 students were introduced to many facets of the Secondary school by taking part in their Orientation Day.

Students were firstly greeted by both our Principal Mr Sweeney and the Assistant Principal – Secondary, Mr Martin, who addressed the importance of supporting each other, trying new things, developing new talents whilst creating lasting relationships with both peers and teachers.

Students were then introduced to their Homeroom teacher and received assistance and guidance in areas including organisation, information technology and how best to navigate their Secondary school life.

In addition to this, some of our 2022 Student Leaders gave up some of their holiday time to guide our new Year 7 students around the campus, providing insight into the facilities that are and will be available for their future learning journey.

After lunch, students took part in a ‘Transition to High School Workshop’ run by the Big Sister Experience. The topics covered included: organisation, friendships and peer pressure, as well as goal setting and motivation. All students benefitted from the hands-on approach that the workshop provided. They also appreciated the opportunity to break off into smaller groups where more detailed discussions around management of these areas and implementation strategies for success in their schooling were fleshed out.

The Year 7 Homeroom teachers, the Year 7 Coordinator and all Secondary staff cannot wait to see the students flourish into confident, autonomous learners and young people of character and integrity within our school community.
