Life in the Primary School - Mt Ridley

As the Term continues to roll along, so to do the experiences and learning opportunities available to our students. There is certainly a buzz of excitement in the air as students were given their first opportunity to audition for lead roles in our Primary Production ‘Lion King Junior’. Our Production is scheduled over 3 nights from Wednesday, 27 to Friday, 29 July. Having missed the opportunity to put on a Production of this calibre over the last 2 years, students and staff are thrilled to again be planning and organising what promises to be a highlight of 2022.

Our Prep students have done remarkably well to have settled so quickly after just 6 weeks of formal schooling. We are aware that many have had little Kinder opportunities over the past 2 years so starting school could be more unsettling than normal. We anticipated a period of adjustment for our Preps, but I’m pleased to share that wonderful progress has been made and that students are well on the way to increased independence and enjoying the social opportunities that exist at school. Prep students had their first incursion last week where they were treated to some weird and wonderful ‘Hands On Science’ experiments. The wonder and excitement shown on their faces as things popped and fizzed was a joy to see.

Today our Year 5 students visited the Royal Melbourne Zoo as part of their studies on ‘Animal Adaptations’. As well as enjoying the beautiful grounds, students will be focussing their attention on observing the structural and behavioural adaptations of animals to survive in their environment, ecosystems and the impact of humans. No doubt a wonderful day was had by all.

It has indeed been a busy start to the year with many more experiences around the corner. We are all looking forward to celebrating Cultural Diversity week next week (Tuesday, 15 to Friday, 18 March) with highlights including a Pizza Van, Gelati Truck, Cultural Diversity Assembly, Cultural Dress up Day and dance and music incursions.

We hope you enjoy this coming long weekend and take the opportunity to rest and relax in preparation for the remaining weeks of term.
