Learning Enhancement at Donnybrook

Some pretty cool things have been happening in our Learning Enhancement Department this term. We work with lots of different students from widely varying abilities, across all year levels. We provide support to students requiring that little bit of extra academic assistance, run small group activities for our smallest people to build their fine motor skills, as well as run a broad range of learning opportunities for students requiring academic extension and enrichment.

We try to offer opportunities to as many different students as we can over the course of the year depending on their individual needs, and our qualified team takes pride in the engaging delivery of our lessons.

Currently, we have fine motor activities happening for many of our Prep students. They are enjoying taking part in short rotational activities which build and refine their ability to complete tasks which involve the small muscles in their hands and fingers, along with hand-eye coordination for those more ‘fiddly’ tasks.

In Years 1 across our Donnybrook and Kalkallo campuses, we have many students participating in the Little Learners Love Literacy program. In Years 2, 3 and 4 we are supporting many more students using the Dandelion Readers program. Both of these programs are age-appropriate ways to build a stronger awareness of sounds, which allow children to make better approximations when trying to read or write unfamiliar words.

In our Shine Program (which seeks to support gifted and talented students), we are offering Visual Arts groups, critical thinking and problem-solving groups, Maths Mentor programs, robotics clubs, inquiry skills programs, electronics and design-based sessions and many other academic extension opportunities over the course of the year.

We would like to take this moment to introduce our Learning Enhancement team to you, and we look forward to working alongside you at various stages throughout your child’s education.
