Preps Clean Up Australia - Kalkallo

Clean Up Australia Day is held on the first Sunday of March each year. On this day, people gather to clean up and preserve our precious, natural environment. On Monday, 7 March, Prep students took part in a School Clean Up, allowing them to play an active role in their community, as responsible global citizens.

The Prep students watched a news report on Clean Up Australia Day and discussed the negative impact litter has on our environment. We discovered that rubbish often travels to the ocean, which injures and kill many of the marine animals. We also read ‘Jelly Boy’, which is a fantastic picture story book about a plastic bag that is mistaken for a jellyfish.

The Prep students were keen to put their new learning into action and scoured the schoolyard for litter. There were some great discussions about the items found and the different materials they were made from. The Prep team hope that this hands-on learning experience builds the students awareness of this significant global issue and forms lifelong positive habits as stewards of the earth.
