Term 1 Visual Arts - Donnybrook and Kalkallo

Students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to express themselves creatively in the art room this term. We have explored new art tools and mediums and have focused on the process of creating new works. Whilst process, play and art-making have been a priority, our new Building D has enabled some of our final pieces to be displayed for staff and students to view. It has been great hearing the positive comments and discussion around these displays of student work and achievement.

As the term comes to an end, I asked a few of our students to reflect on what they enjoy about Visual Arts. Here are a few of the responses:

I love Visual Arts because …

It calms me down and I feel relaxed - Aanya 5Y

It brings out my imagination - Steven 5Y

It shows my intelligence through painting, drawing and artwork - Henry 2Y

I can be creative by using different resources to make artwork - Haksh 2Y

I can express myself by putting my ideas onto my page and creating art - Diya 4Y

I can show my emotions through my art, and I am proud of my work when it is finished - Neil 4Y

I love how art makes me feel joyful and I like how I can show my feelings through the materials I use - Ramneeq 4Y

Students love the chance to be creative, both in the Visual and Performing Arts. Over the last couple of years, they have missed out on essential sensory experiences. Providing students with a variety of experiences and play-based opportunities allows for that freedom of thought and imagination. Creativity is such a vital part of our day-to-day lives.
