Prep - Kalkallo

Throughout this term, Prep students have been exploring new letters and their corresponding sounds. They have been introduced to many multi-sensory activities and several characters to assist them in learning these letters. Together, we have been practising how to articulate these sounds correctly through cued articulation.

It is fantastic to see and hear students beginning to make attempts to sound out words when writing, forming letters and understanding that these letters convey a message.

This week has brought us some excitement as we are beginning to segment and blend sounds together to read and write words. For many students this is the first time that they may be ‘reading’ a word and it is wonderful to see teachers and students celebrating their achievements and efforts. We look forward to Term 2 which will see our Prep students bringing home take home readers for the first time and we cannot wait to watch them further grow and develop a love for reading and writing.
