Staff Farewells 2022

As the end of the year draws to a close, we farewell departing staff.

Jennifer Johnstone: Head of Teaching and Learning – Secondary, and Teacher of English.

Jennifer has served these past 4 years with distinction. Joining us in 2019 as the then Head of Curriculum – Secondary, Jennifer established herself as a deep thinker, articulate orator and warm-hearted colleague. Overseeing all aspects of the academic program for the Secondary school, Jennifer undertook a myriad of tasks, each performed with distinction. Whether it was creating curriculum handbooks, facilitating a parent information evening, developing examination schedules, liaising with parents, managing the academic progress of students, or providing expert advice to colleagues – each was undertaken with her customary zeal and dedication. Jennifer taught English, something she had some decades of experience, and her students were better off from her knowledge. Her love of literature was obvious, and it became infectious amongst her students, something they reflect upon fondly.

It is with sadness that we say farewell, but I know that many new adventures lie in wait, and that Jennifer will embark on any new offering with the same can-do attitude and endeavour we have become accustomed. The role Jennifer has played these years has been significant, and she has made a major impact upon the Secondary school. Her positive contribution across so many areas will remain for some time, acting as a testimony to her hard work and initiative.

On behalf of the School, I wish Jennifer all the best for the new chapter in her life and I know I speak for everyone at Hume in wishing her the best of luck in the future

Rosie Ellis: Teachers’ Assistant Donnybrook

Rosie joined Hume at the commencement of 2021, and since July this year has been on parenting leave. In the time she had with us, Rosie proved to be an enthusiastic and valuable member of the team. She quickly developed warm relationships with the students, and the teachers welcomed her always willing support in the classroom. Rosie is looking forward to resuming her university studies and spending time with her new family.

Airom Camua-Uyehara: Year 6 Teacher Donnybrook

Airom joined us in the middle of the year when the school took on an extra Year 6 class at Donnybrook due to the closure of Colmont School, she herself were one of the teachers from that school. Airom quickly displayed her professionalism and seamlessly joined the Hume community. She provided wonderful support to her students; many she had taught previously, and they were greatly appreciative of the stability she provided. Airom was well known for her extensive content knowledge of primary English, Mathematics and Music curriculum and displays strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

We also send our best wishes to two staff who head off on parenting leave. Hannah Gallea: Year 4 Teacher Donnybrook and Laura Venditti: Secondary Italian Teacher. Hannah and Laura have some exciting times ahead and we look forward to hearing from them soon with some wonderful news.

Danny Dakak: Secondary Mathematics Teacher and Natalie Moore: Year 6 Teacher Donnybrook will each be taking a year’s leave in 2023. Danny will spend some of the time with family travelling and pursuing some personal interests, and Natalie will continue to follow her passion for sailing and will co-lead a three-month ocean voyage.

We look forward to Hannah, Laura, Danny and Natalie returning to Hume in 2024.

In the next, and final Newsletter for 2022, I look forward in announcing the new staff appointments for 2023.
