Harmony Week at Kalkallo

This week across Australia we celebrate Harmony Week. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Our children are celebrating in a variety of ways. In classrooms teachers are discussing cultural diversity and acceptance. Stories are being read to illustrate the ideas. Today we celebrated with a cultural dress parade and gelato. The students were invited to share their understandings through craft.

The idea behind Harmony Week this year is that everyone belongs. All teachers at the Kalkallo campus have been deliberately creating a strong sense of belonging for all our students. No matter what your cultural background, no matter what your skills and abilities, no matter what you look like and sound like, you belong. Our children are developing that sense of belonging which is becoming apparent as we greet each other in the playground and around the school. We are aiming for the understandings that we are continuing to develop this week to filter through all weeks. At Kalkallo every week will be Harmony Week.
