A Writer for a Day with Clive Parkin

How lucky are we to have our very own ‘in house’ writer visit us in Year 3!

Mr Clive Parkin, the Head of English in the Secondary school and established writer, shared his knowledge and expertise, to expand our students’ learning of play writing, theatre and poetry.

As part of the Year 3 English Curriculum students are expected to create a range of texts and be able to respond, examine and create literature.

Students learned more about what plays consist of and the elements of drama. Mr Parkin deconstructed how scenes are created. Using props and provocations, students constructed problems that could occur in scenes.

To put their new learning into action, students tested their learning by reading a script and practising their acting skills. It was very entertaining.

Students continued their learning by analysing scripts in class and then furthered their skills by practising scripts and writing their own in Reader’s Theatre.

We were very thankful to have such knowledge available to us, to give us firsthand learning.

I enjoyed learning about Mr Parkin’s plays that he wrote. - Angelina

I learned that scenes have problems in them, like in narratives. - Mahi

He told us about the plays he wrote when he was at university and how no one showed up. It was funny! - Cassandra
