A Very Special 15th Birthday Celebration

On Friday, 20 May students and staff celebrated Hume Anglican Grammar’s milestone 15th Birthday. Those of you with keen powers of observation may have noticed that staff were wearing their school tie or scarf. This was a lovely touch to remind us all of this special celebration. We began the day with a Founders’ Day Assembly in the CGA which was in itself a wonderful event as it was the first time in recent memory that multiple Year Levels (3 - 6) were able to come together as a whole. Ms Monger addressed the students and staff to acknowledge the School’s birthday and we were treated to spectacular performances from our Choir and Marimba Ensemble. A big thanks to Miss Sommer and Reverend Peter for preparing our students for these performances.

In addition to the student items, we are fortunate to have a special guest speaker address our community. Mr Terry Mountney once called Hume Anglican Grammar home, or should I say, 100 Mt Ridley Rd, Mickleham. Terry lived in the Homestead almost 50 years ago when it was a family home with his mother and siblings. The students thoroughly enjoy Terry’s presentation as he recalled ghost stories, showed us the old front door key and explained how the rooms in the Homestead were used, even confirming that Mr Sweeney’s office was once a Billiard Room. Ms Monger was presented with a special Birthday gift to the school from the students and staff of the Primary school. 15th anniversaries are traditionally celebrated with a crystal gift, so, with this mind, an engraved crystal plate will sit proudly in the Homestead to mark this milestone birthday.

Our Founders’ Day talent show was again a popular inclusion with 14 separate acts entertaining us during lunchtime. Congratulations and thank you to all those who prepared items to showcase their various talents.

And finally, students and staff enjoyeded a delicious birthday cupcake to mark this special occasion. Happy 15th Birthday Hume Anglican Grammar!
