End of the Year - Secondary

It has been a busy and exciting end to the year in Secondary school.

Transition classes for Year 10 and 11 students provided them an opportunity to get a head start with their 2023 subjects. I was impressed with the way students applied themselves during this period – the challenge is to keep this going throughout 2023.

Years 7 - Years 9 students completed their examinations successfully and enjoyed the use of the Sports Centre as an exam venue for the first time. Since then, they have enjoyed a range of stimulating and fun activities to bring the year to a close some of which included The Smoothie Bar, A Day on the Green, along with trips to the Melbourne Zoo and Funfields.

We celebrated students’ achievements in our Secondary Presentation Ceremony earlier this week. It was a fantastic event that highlighted the wonderful efforts of our students, particularly in the academic sphere, throughout the year.

I mentioned in our final assembly for the year, the importance of students taking some time over the break to reflect on their year and to set themselves some goals for the year ahead. Goals need to be based on process – the habits and behaviours required to improve – rather than achievement or results. Regular study habits, handing in draft essays, seeking additional teacher feedback, asking more questions in class, and creating a distraction free study environment at home are all examples of suitable goals.

It has been an exciting, challenging and rewarding year. I have felt a great sense of pride witnessing all that our students have achieved this year and am so pleased to have joined Hume community. It has been a privilege and honour to lead the Secondary school in 2022.

My thanks go to the staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to assist and support students on their learning journey – their dedication, commitment and expertise is greatly appreciated.

I would also like to wish all our students and their families, as well as the staff at the Secondary school, a very safe and happy holiday season.
