The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Dear Friends and Families,

‘Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!’ [2 Corinthians 9:15].

This term, as we have done so for the previous few years, we are now asking all our families and students to support the Anglicare Christmas Appeal, through the donation of quality toys and non-perishable food.

These will then be delivered to the local Anglicare community centre in Craigieburn on Newbury Boulevard and donated to needy local families.

Whenever we do such charitable acts, in one sense, we do so in response to the ‘indescribable gift’ that God provided for us at Christmas time - the gift of his Son, Jesus.

This same Jesus would grow up to become the Saviour for us, so to take away our sin and lead us into a life of blessed assurance and renewal. The celebrations of Christmas and Easter are intertwined, and the commemoration of Christ’s birthday each year is indeed a wonderful annual reminder of how God himself broke into the course of human history in such a majestic manner.

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent (meaning “arrival”), which is the season leading up to Christmas, including the four Sundays before 25 December.

I will say more about Christmas in my final newsletter article in a fortnight’s time, but in the meantime, I encourage you to pray the Advent prayer below:

Advent Prayer for the Week

Holy God,
you make us glad,
with the yearly expectation of the birth of your Son Jesus Christ:
grant that, as we joyfully receive him for our Redeemer,
so we may with sure confidence behold him when he shall come to be our Judge;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.
