Community Spirit

Last Friday, staff, students (and parents) enjoyed a half day ‘tools down’ afternoon with formal classes finishing at 12:30pm. We were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful sunny day in which students were encouraged to close their devices and enjoy some well-deserved down time. There were a number of special events that coincided with the earlier finish. Our Prep students celebrated 100 days of Learning and completed some great activities to mark this milestone. It was wonderful to see Prep students proudly wearing their homemade ‘100 days of Learning’ hats and also wearing their pyjamas during the day to add a bit of excitement to the occasion. All Primary students were also asked to decorate their home letterbox with Hume colours (Blue, yellow and red) as a show of strength, resilience and unity during this current lockdown period. Many of our students and families took up this challenge and sent a photo of their colourful letterboxes to school. We are hopeful that this simple gesture helped to brighten the day as Hume colours were proudly on show throughout our community.

On Sunday, 5 September Australia celebrates Father’s Day. Along with Mother’s Day, this event is one of the most significant days in the School calendar with a morning of face-to-face fun and socialising being the norm. This celebration has again been forced to move online, and whilst not ideal, we do plan on acknowledging this special day as best we can given the limitations. Please set aside time on the morning of Tuesday, 31 August to join us for an online Father’s Day assembly. Details will be communicated when finalised.

It is with a heavy heart that again I write to you during yet another period of Remote Teaching and Learning. I express my ongoing gratitude and thanks to our staff and students for their efforts in maintaining exceptional teaching and learning and of course to you, their parents, for your unwavering support. Community spirit and strength of the partnership between home and school will again see us prevail.
