Physical Education at Donnybrook

Students have continued to engage positively in Physical Education this term, despite some of the challenges we are all facing.

The Athletics Carnival was a tremendous success. Could we have asked for better weather? The fields were bathed in sunshine with not a cloud in the sky. Students chatted excitedly, participated in many events including running, discus, shotput, novelty games and relays and enjoyed a bite from the canteen. They deserve to be commended for participating with enthusiasm and resilience during all events. Many thanks to Mrs Stephanie Finn (Co-curricular Coordinator) for organising the event.

The Olympic Games were also a great source of excitement and inspiration for many students. It was fantastic to see students enthused and engaged by the events that took place during the Games. Many online PE classes involved Olympic activities such as obstacle courses, mini games, and the invention of new Olympic sports. A big thank you to all students for participating in online classes with great effort and enthusiasm.

A highlight during Remote Teaching and Learning has included Year 5 students engaging in online fitness sessions. It has been great to see students eager and willing to participate in high-intensity interval training. Students huffed and puffed, but in the spirit of the Olympians did not give up and pushed through the workout. Well done to Year 5 for your positive attitude during and after this challenging activity.

A reminder to everyone to stay active as much as possible during lockdowns. We see the benefits of exercise on students’ ability to focus on their learning during the day. Take advantage of any breaks throughout the school day and encourage your children to have a play outside, jump on the trampoline, do some stretching, kick a soccer ball, walk or cycle around the block. These short ‘brain breaks’ do make a difference and we look forward to being active together at school soon.
