There are a range of opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and serve the school community. At each Year level students can represent their class mates as Senators, providing students with a voice so that their interests and issues can be heard. Service model leadership is the focus for Hume students. Students accept the leadership roles so they may set an example, they should not be content with just wearing their badge of office, but pursue opportunities and challenges, reach out to others, embrace the role and become leaders.
In Primary School, students nominate Captains from the Year 6 cohort to represent them. They lead the Senators in the Primary Senate where students develop skills in public speaking and diplomacy.
In Secondary School, students are also able to nominate to lead The Social Justice and Community Service Committee or The Environment and Sustainability Committee. The Arts department also elect a leader who helps organise and promote The Arts within the school community.
Our House SystemHume has a House system in both Primary and Secondary where students are elected to the positions of House Captain and House Vice Captain for each House. These students lead their House at three major carnivals (Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country) and during the year they will support the organisation of a range of House activities. The four School Houses are:
