At Hume Anglican Grammar, we recognise that we are living in a fast-paced, globally connected world and we aim to give our students the skills they need to work effectively in their senior years of schooling, strengthening the foundation for future success. Our Secondary curriculum incorporates a comprehensive range of subjects designed to help students identify and successfully pursue their career goals. It is continually reviewed to allow for new initiatives in response to our student interests and growing cohort.
Years 7 and 8
In Years 7 and 8 the curriculum is largely based
on the key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Language other than English (Italian), Health and Physical Education
and Religious and Values Education. Students also experience some lessons in the Visual and Performing Arts, Information Technology, and Design
and Technology Studies. Year 8 students also experience a two-day educational experience – Icook or IKart. This experience enables students
to choose to develop knowledge and skills in the area of Food Technology or undertake a collaborative task to build and race a Go-Kart.
Years 9 and 10
In Year 9 and 10 the core curriculum is narrowed
and students begin to make elective choices, providing them with a foundation of experience, knowledge, understanding and skills in an even
broader range of subjects including Forensic Science, STEM, Media Studies, Outdoor Education and many more. This enables students to make informed
choices about courses in Years 11 and 12. Year 9 students also undertake a week long City Experience which allows them to undertake a range
of curriculum-based activities while learning about the city of Melbourne. Our timetable is also designed to allow students who excel in their
studies and meet strict criteria to accelerate into a VCE subject.
Years 11 and 12
For Years 11 and 12, the curriculum offers a broad
range of over twenty Unit 1-4 subjects which allows students to work towards completing the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). We are
responsive to student interests and thus will continue to grow our VCE offerings as numbers in the Senior Secondary school continues to increase.
